Preparing your home for hurricane season

Hurricane season runs from June through November, and the owners most exposed are often the ones who are not here. Preparation is far easier when it happens before a storm is named, not in the rush afterward.

Before the season starts

Trim trees away from the roof, clear gutters and drains, and confirm shutters or protection are ready to deploy. Photograph the property for your records, and make sure someone local has authorization to act on your behalf if you cannot get here.

When a storm is forming

This is when a local team matters most. Loose furniture is secured, protection goes up, and the home is checked one last time. You should not be booking a last minute flight to move patio chairs.

After it passes

A prompt inspection finds water intrusion, roof damage and power issues while they are still manageable. Documented, with photos, so any insurance conversation starts from evidence rather than memory.
